Frequently Asked Questions

What is KEVO?

Kevo is a place to gather and house all of the information about a person. This can be biographical content, images, videos, periodical content such as blog entries, external links, or whatever else you can dream up. Kevo is flexible. Kevo allows you to create pages of content about a person that can be an RSS feed, Wiki page or Blog page. A "Kevo" which is the word we dreamed up to call this collection of data about a person.

Help turn Kevo into the defenitive source of information about people. Since each profile is controlled not by the subject person, but by the community this site is really yours to shape into the greatest source of information.

Kevo also lets its users be more recognized for their content contributions with an editorial karma rewards system. Also, as a registered user you can get a customized news feed that contains updates and information on just your favorite Kevo's. Then, if you want to go further you can see how you yourself or your friends rank versus truely famous people with Kevo's fame ranking system that shows you day by day how 'famous' a person is within Kevo.

We also have a blog . If you have any questions or suggestions, don't hesitate to let us know, and don't hesitate to begin contributing and using Kevo as your source of information about famous and prominent people.

How do I contribute on Kevo?

Contributing is easy! There are buttons to edit, changes, and upload media in their respective places within a profile. So, to upload media go to the media tab of a profile. To edit a profile page, just click "edit" on that page. You can also make new profiles if they don't already exist within Kevo.

If you are not logged in, you can still submit contributions - but they will always need to go through an approval system called Editorial Karma. If you Register, you can track your karma and growing reputation!

Why is my contribution Pending?

When you submit a contribution to Kevo it needs to go through an approval system. In order for a contribution to be approved it needs a total karma score greater or equal to the profiles fame score. Your karma (a new user starts with 1) is added to your contribution as well as any other user who rates your contribution UP, on the flipside any user who rates your contribution down subtracts their karma from your contribution.

For example, a user tries to submit vandalism to a certain profile. The user only has 20 karma and the profile has 500 fame. His edit goes into pending status with 20 of 500 necessary karma. Other users rate the contribution down so that it does not get approved and this eventually lowers the karma rating of the user.

On the other hand a good submission is placed on a profile that has 500 fame. As an example, five people with each of atleast 100 karma could rate it up and the pending item would be now approved. Or one seasoned user with 600 karma could submit changes to the 500 fame profile and see them instantly since he adds his own karma to the submission which is already higher then the profiles current fame rating of 500.

We're always playing with ways to make the system more intuitive, easier and more accessible. This is why we recently opened up editing to any non-registered user who can then submit at zero karma, but still go through the same approval process.

What is Fame?

Fame is an internal rating of the popularity of the profile in relation to other profiles within the system. Fame is on a scale of 1-1000. But fame is not a linear scale, since fame has no bounds... If someone in the system gets disproportionately famous, other profiles will LOSE some fame because they are relatively less famous compared to the most famous person.

This is all powered by our tricky internal algorithm and weighing system which we are always looking to refine. Coming soon - faster updates! (More than once a day)

Each profile has a large fame graph like this:

And you can also grab and share a mini-fame graph on your site, like this:

To get the mini-fame graph for yourself, just go to any profile and grab the link code next to the mini fame graph

What is Karma?

Karma grants users greater editorial control over many elements of the site.

A user gains karma by other users rating their contributions UP or DOWN. The more UP ratings you get the more Karma, you get. Kevo actually uses a forumla to determine your karma rating in relation to all other users within the system on a 1-1000 scale.

Why do I care about Karma?

A karma number corresponds to a user's editorial power; specifically, a user can add their karma number to any pending item within kevo. Once the total karma number of an item in PENDING is equal to or greater than the Fame of the profile, that item is then APPROVED.

The more Karma you have, the easier it is to get stuff done in Kevo and the more recognition you instantly have from members of the community. Remember, Your karma number is a function of how many times people have rated your past contributions UP, so just by having a high number means you have been doing something right.

This makes up a social collaboration basis for everything within Kevo.

What are Tags?

Many items within Kevo have a bit of meta-data (data which describes data) associated with them. These are called "tags", which is like a keyword or category label. Tags help you find items that have something in common.

Rating Items

It's important for users who care that profiles have valid information rate contributions from other users. Not only will this give that user a bit of karma, but it enabled pending contributions to become quickly approved.

If you rate good contributions, someone will rate yours!
