Britney Spears, full name Britney Jean Spears, is a singer, dancer, actress, and writer. Born in Mississippi and raised in Louisiana, Spears studied gymnastics and singing as a child. She is married to dancer and rapper Kevin Federline. Spears and Federline have one child, Sean Preston Federline, and a second child expected in September 2006.
Beginning with a run on the "New Mickey Mouse Club" television program in the early nineties, Spears emerged in the late 1990s with her solo album ...Baby One More Time for which she was nominated for two Grammy Awards; the album remains her best-selling work worldwide. Her sophomore album, Oops! I Did It Again was also nominated for two Grammy Awards in 2001, as was her third album Britney in 2002. Spears eventually received a Grammy for Best Dance Recording in 2005 for the single "Toxic" from her fourth album In the Zone. Spears plans on releasing a fifth album in 2007.
In addition to her work in entertainment, Spears has a number of products bearing her name including a line of perfumes, video games, and dolls. Elizabeth Arden launched "Curious" in September 2004 and "Fantasy" in 2005; both were top sellers. Britney's Dance Beat, a video game which featured five of her songs, was release in 2002 for PlayStation 2, PC, and Game Boy Advance. The Britney Spears Doll, launched in 1999, has become one of the best-selling dolls of all time.
Aside from her career, Spears has come under scrutiny for her personal life. After splitting with singer Justin Timberlake, rumors spread of Spears' unfaithfulness. Before marrying Kevin Federline, Spears had her brief marriage to childhood friend Jason Allen Alexander annulled. Controversy has surrounded Spears since the birth of her son. She was photographed in early 2006 with the baby unbuckled in her lap while driving.
