Johnson retired in 1991, just after being diagnosed with the HIV virus. That year, he was an honorary member of the All-Star team, winning game MVP in 1992. To cap off his career, he was an obvious choice as one of the NBA's Top 50 Players of All-time in 1996.
The original "Dream Team" member was active in both basketball and television following his retirement. Johnson spent a season as a color analyst for NBC Sports, coached the Lakers for part of the 1994 season and hosted his own talk show in 1998.
