When John Wayne Bobbitt was a 21-year-old Marine, he fell in love with a 19-year-old Ecuadorian immigrant named Lorena Gallo. "She was pretty," he told a reporter, "and she had a cute accent. The love lasted until October, 1991, when they separated for a year. They reconciled, and everything seemed to be fine until he came home drunk the night of June 24, 1993. Lorena claims he raped her, so later, as he slept, she took a kitchen knife and castrated him. When he charged her with malicious mutilation, she retaliated with a charge of marital rape.
