While I agree with the judge that the system, his family and etc.. failed Nathaniel Abraham as a child, after reading about his stay at Maxey I'm not convinced he will be successful in his adult life.
This was such a hard case to decide, my heart goes out to the child, but I fear the adult.

It is great that he received another chance at freedom. I was so touched when I seen his case air on AE. I came home immediately after work to do my research. I do understand that he took someone's life but my God it was truly a mistake.

The justice system failed in this case. If you can do the crime, you do the time. This boy deliberately murdered another person and was not prosecuted to the full extent of the law. They say he was a victim of society. I say he was a victim of poor parenting. It's not an excuse for his decision to commit murder. He took someone's life. He still has his. I wonder if he ever expressed regret for taking that boy's life? The wrong message was sent with this verdict. If a 13 year old boy was to shoot a classmate or teacher, he would be considered a victim of society too?

I think we rely too much on defense of poor parenting. Many individuals come from broken homes no mother or father, but they persevere and become upstanding law abiding citizens and adults. Crime is crime, regardles of the age. If you read the case their was mere preparation to complete the crime, and he took a substantial step by stealing the gun. I think we should have more sympathy for the victims family. This was a innocent young person who had his life terminated because of a child who wanted to shoot someone. In my opinion if you a old enough to commit a crime then you are old enough to suffer the repercussions of your actions.

I am 19 and I can definatly say i was and still can be very bad. It is all up to the teenager or child, we know and knew what we are doing. If i did what he did when i was 13 I'd expect no less than 20 years.

Unfortunately, we now know that the justice system failed Nathaniel Abraham (and, for that matter, society in general and the State of Michigan). As I am writing this, Nathaniel Abraham was arrested yesterday for intent to distribute Ecstasy.
As long as the criminal lifestyle is seen as glamorous, this will continue to happen. Perhaps when he is released, assuming he is convicted (likely), he can be an example of how un-glamorous life behind bars really is--especially since he just had his first taste of REAL (not juvenile) prison.

I am 19 years of age and i truly disagree with anyone that argues the idea of this 11 year old being punish for a mistake that was made, yes he should be punished but by all means have a heart he's just a child, he did not have the intentions of killing anyone, RACE does play an important role in this try putting a caucasion child in nathaniels shoes. God gives everyone a second chance, condolecence does go out to the greene family but it was a mistake live learn, life!!! Its the same aspect of a mother running over a child, or children playing with weapons and it goes off, no intentions are made to harm anyone thats why its called a mistake. Nathaniel does not deserve to be tried as an adult, he does not deserve to be punished a lifes sentence as a child, this is not right. This is a child crying out for help, guidance, and a law system that shows when a child needs to not be neglected by society!!!
