With only one defeat to tarnish his record, Oscar De La Hoya is one of the world's greatest pound-for pound fighters. His prowess in the ring is evident by the string of KO's and TKO's to his credit.

His first taste of boxing came from his father, himself a prizefighter. In fact, De La Hoya is a third generation boxer, carrying on the family tradition in ways his family had no idea were to come. Especially considering that when he was a youngster, De La Hoya was afraid to fight.

It was because of this fear that his father took him into the gym, to teach him how to defend himself.

An extremely charismatic individual, De La Hoya brandishes his 'devilish' grin like a sword, drawing throngs of fans to the sport of boxing, men and women alike. His humbleness, a trait not likely found in boxing, is a refreshing change in this sport.

When not in the ring, De La Hoya spends his time contributing to the community around him. Being able to issue stay in school, drug-free and crime-free messages to children is something close to his heart. His Oscar De La Hoya Foundation provides scholarships to disadvantaged youth in his native East Los Angeles, providing for them the opportunity to continue their education.

Currently residing in California, De La Hoya looks forward to his next match, scheduled for February, 2000.
