Biography
Robert B. Shapiro, Chairman and CEO of the Fortune 500 Monsanto Corporation, a life-sciences company, began his career as an attorney in the early 1960s. He slowly gravitated to the corporate arena as he moved from university teaching to a general counsel position with General Instrument Corporation, and again with G.D. Searle and Company. From there, Shapiro became the President of Nutra Sweet, a division of Searle, which later became a subsidiary of the Monsanto Corporation.
Shapiro is heavily involved in community organizations, committees, and efforts that promote business growth. He has served on over seven Presidential Advisory Committees, including Policy and Negotiations and Industrial Innovation.
