-Saddam Hussein was born on April 28, 1937, to a family of peasant serfs in the village of al-Awja in the Tikrit region near the Tigris river. It has been reported that Saddam was abused and neglected as a child. Saddam Hussein’s biological father abandoned him and his mother when he was still an infant. Saddam’s mother remarried and Saddam spent his first years with his stepfather, Ibrahim Hassan.
