Biography
Tori Amos (born Myra Ellen Amos, August 22, 1963) was the daughter of a Methodist preacher. By the age of four, she was singing and playing piano in the church choir and even tried her hand at writing her own songs. Her determination paid off and Amos eventually won a scholarship to Baltimore's Peabody Conservatory based on her instrumental prowess. While she was studying at Peabody, she lost interest in classical music and turned her attention to rock & roll, especially the music of Led Zeppelin. Amos was kicked out of the Conservatory and began writing pop ballads and performing in local bars. She then moved to Los Angeles in her late teens to become a pop singer, during which time she released the rock heavy album “Y Kant Tori Read”.
After several years of failure, Amos changed her sound once again and released Little Earthquakes, her first album as a singer/songwriter, in late 1991. Her unique blend of rock and classical piano sold well in both the States ...
