Jerry Brudos was born in South Dakota to a mother who was rigorously domineering and dictatorial towards her son. Brudos moved to California with his family as a young child, and began to develop a fetish for women's spiked high heel shoes. He would steal shoes from his sister and keep them hidden in his bedroom so he could stare at them, and was known to go through people's trash looking for shoes. Throughout his childhood, his shoe fetish would turn into twisted fantasies that brought him sexual arousal.

Psychiatrists would diagnose Brudos with a personality disorder, but claim that he was not psychotic, yet he would describe horrific fantasies about having complete domination over women, and keeping them hidden in a freezer where he could place their stiff bodies into positions that would please him. Brudos moved to Portland, Oregon with his parents, where he graduated from high school and joined the Army, only to be let out seven months later after the telling of dreams he was having of a woman sneaking into his bedroom at night to his army psychiatrist. Believing Brudos needed psychiatric help instead of an Army career, he was discharged.

Brudos then took a job as an electronics technician and married a woman from Oregon. During his marriage he would have his wife walk around their house disrobed so he could photograph her, and was known to wear her bra and underwear. By the time Brudos was in his later twenties, his fantasies were not enough for him and he began murdering women in his garage, where he set up an elaborate room filled with lights and mirrors so he could see himself committing the gruesome murders. Brudos would cut off the body parts of his victims, such as their feet and breasts, and keep them in his freezer to keep his fantasies alive when he wasn't out on a killing frenzy.

Brudos was finally captured after he was brought in on a weapons charge, and on suspicion for the murders of the young women. Brudos eventually confessed to the killings, and was sentenced to life in prison. As of this writing, Brudos enjoys his time in prison with his computer. He is up for parole, but the odds of getting out of prison are not good due to the severity of his crimes and his evaluations still showing signs of fantasies.
