Jennifer Lopez, full name Jennifer Lynn Lopez, is an actress, singer, and dancer. Born to Puerto Rican parents in New York City, Lopez began singing and dancing at the age of sixteen. As a full-blooded Puerto Rican, her parents strongly encouraged Lopez to not only respect her heritage, but to assimilate into American culture as well.

Lopez started her career as a "fly girl" on the early 1990s comedy variety show "In Living Color." She quickly made the transition into film with roles in Mi Familia, Money Train, and Jack. Her performance in the biographical Selena not only brought her incredible popularity, but critical praise. Not only was the Lopez nominated for a Golden Globe for her performance, but she was the first Latina actress to be paid over $1 million for a single film.
