Anderson received her start as a model serendipitously. During a Canadian football game, Anderson was wearing a Labatt's brewing company shirt and was pictured on the stadium screen. The crowd cheered and as a result, the company offered her a modeling contract. Following her initial work for Labatt's, she signed with <em>Playboy</em> and moved to California in 1989.
